Recently, the mass concrete pouring for the A/O (Anaerobic/Oxic) tank base slab of the wastewater treatment unit of the CHN Energy Xinjiang Coal‑to‑Gas Co., Ltd. Zhundong 2 billion m³/year coal‑to‑natural gas project – for which our company provides full‑process supervision services – was successfully completed. The continuous pouring lasted 26 hours, with over 4,000 cubic meters of concrete placed in a single operation. Throughout the process, quality remained fully controllable, and zero safety incidents occurred. This marked a smooth achievement of a key control node in the wastewater system construction, laying a solid foundation for the timely completion and commissioning of the project's environmental protection supporting facilities.
The CHN Energy Zhundong Coal‑to‑Natural Gas Project is located in the Xihaishan Industrial Park, Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xinjiang. It is a key coal‑chemical engineering project of CHN Energy and a benchmark project for the clean and efficient utilization of coal in Xinjiang. With a total investment exceeding RMB 16.7 billion, the project will produce 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually upon completion, supplying natural gas to eastern regions through the West‑to‑East Gas Pipeline network to meet residential demand. The A/O tank of the wastewater treatment unit serves as the core structure for wastewater purification, responsible for the biochemical degradation and compliant discharge of production wastewater. Its base slab is an extra‑large, mass waterproof concrete structure, presenting multiple construction challenges, including enormous pouring volume, high anti‑seepage standards, difficult temperature‑control crack prevention, and stringent requirements for continuous operation – making it a key controlled process in the civil construction phase.
To ensure the smooth execution of this extended, large‑volume pouring operation, the project supervision department planned in advance and implemented meticulous supervision and control measures throughout the entire process:
First, front‑end scheme review to establish a technical defense line. Before pouring, the supervision team jointly conducted a special scheme review with the owner, general contractor, and construction contractor. They carefully verified the mass concrete mix design, layered sloping pouring techniques, full‑process temperature monitoring, thermal insulation and curing measures, and specialized anti‑seepage and crack‑control measures. In view of the large temperature difference between day and night in the Gobi desert and the risk of temperature cracks caused by hydration heat, the supervision team provided optimization recommendations. They strictly completed joint acceptance inspections of reinforcement, formwork, embedded parts, and waterstop structures, and only permitted construction to begin after all pouring conditions were met.

Third, overall resource coordination to guarantee continuous operation. To meet the sustained supply demand of over 4,000 cubic meters of concrete in a single pour, the supervision team, together with all parties, determined the required number of mixer trucks and pumps, dynamically coordinated batching plant capacity, and performed real‑time checks on the quality of raw materials including aggregates, cement, and admixtures. They also implemented protective measures for night‑time construction safety, temporary electricity, mechanical maintenance, dust suppression, and heatstroke prevention under the Gobi's high temperatures. The team enforced a comprehensive safety production responsibility system, ensuring uninterrupted continuous pouring.
After 26 hours of relentless day‑and‑night effort, with the last pump of concrete successfully placed, the entire base slab pouring task for the A/O tank was completed. Preliminary on‑site inspections by the supervision team confirmed that the slab was formed smoothly and compacted properly, temperature control data met all requirements throughout, and waterproofing structures and embedded components were installed in compliance with design and specification standards. The goal of one‑time continuous pouring with zero quality defects and zero safety incidents was fully achieved.
